Helios ESU have just returned from a fantastic day’s rock climbing at Stanage Edge. This was to be the outdoor part of the climbing badge, but most people went beyond the requirements of the badge, ticking Velcro Arete (HS 4b) and Toggle (VS 4b). The most notable achievement of the day was Imran’s epic struggle up Mantelpiece Hand Traverse (HVS 4c)
In addition to the climbing, we also had a great picnic / sunbathing session, and Larry (our Lobster Mascot) made it most of the way up Mantlepiece Crack.
Special thanks go to our instructors Adam, Phil and John who gave up their opportunity to watch the England v Germany match to run the session. They have taped it though, so I’m sure when they watch it back they’ll be glad they went climbing…
Just a quick note to say that the climbing on Sunday is STILL ON, as planned (check FB / notice for details). We are aware that this clashes with some football (and also cricket, and the grand prix :~) ). Tough. We will make the following arrangements -
If you wish to leave early to watch the football then:
If you have any problems with transport (parents won’t collect you cos they’re in the pub, for example). Then speak to me ASAP and I *might* be able to arrange something.
Entries for this year’s Apex Extreme Challenge open on Sunday and I will be submitting our team details first thing Monday morning. Cost will be £22.50 per person and you can pay online, or bring the money/cheque to me ASAP. So, get yourselves in to team of four, and work out the following:
…then head over to [THIS PAGE HERE] and enter it there.
If you haven’t done it by Sunday then I’m afraid your team won’t be entered. You have had 14 weeks to sort yourselves out!
If you still want to enter after Sunday then you’ll have to do it yourself, and get a parent to write you a cheque. You’ll also need access to a printer to print the email that you receive to confirm your entry.

Here’s Joe’s photos from the weekend… Tony’s will be up when he’s figured out Lightroom :~)
Here’s the form for if you want to go on the Summer Camp / Joint Camp. It’s A5 so it might print funny depending on your settings, but don’t worry about it.
It would be helpful to have deposits by the end of May please.
