Well done to our 3 team for coming 36th (Follow the Sheep), 22nd (Fudge Lobster Express) and 18th (Lobster) in this year’s Apex Extreme Challenge. An extra mention goes to the Lobster team (Kieran, Jack, Imran and Will) who came 6th on the Apex Eliminator, the army assault course, beating most of the Network teams too!

Joint Camp – a huge success

Helios ESU have just returned home from a fantastic weekend’s camping with 3rd Hindley Scouts / Explorers and 3rd Brampton Scouts at Linnet Clough

Thankfully the weather was nice to us, and we were able to see the summer out in style, conquering The Cube high ropes course, kayaking, low ropes, pedal karting in the mud, and the bouldering wall, as well as getting to meet people from the other groups.

Photos will, as ever, follow soon.

Next up – Apex Extreme – bring on the challenge!

Photos, photos, photos…

Summer Camp report

Helios ESU have just returned from their first Summer Camp, held at Beaudesert Park over the bank holiday weekend. The four day format was a huge success, with an intense programme of activities, including crate stacking, Jacob’s ladder, zipwire, geocaching, volleyball, climbing and abseiling (most of which took place with an inflatable lobster krabbed to someone’s back.

Other highlights included Joe’s many pearls of wisdom which will be added to the quotes page soon, our home made death trap low ropes course and the awesome fire on the last night.

There was however one point of sadness – Dan burst the lobster. He accidentally stood on Larry, our mascot (blow up lobster). There will however, be a ressurection soon!

The only other lowlight of the weekend included the dreadful Take That tribute band shipped in to entertain the Guides on site.

Once Padge gets round to working the magic, the photos will appear on the website, but until then you can check them out in this flickr set

Planning is already underway for next year’s Summer Camp, which will be held at Blackwell Adventure the same weekend (26th – 29th August). The activities are likely to include 250m dual zipwire, 3G swing, high ropes cowstails course (like Go Ape), swimming pool, kayaking plus other lobster related nonsense…

Joint Camp – forms and directions

Here are the forms and directions to download for the joint camp at Linnet Clough. The letters are the same ones that have been given to the Scouts, so you’ll probably want to ignore the kit list and use your head instead (hint – you might want something to sit on :~) )

If you want to go, but haven’t signed up yet then there are still places. The cost is £35 and you can download a form [HERE]

Apex team entries

ApexEntries for this year’s Apex Extreme Challenge open on Sunday and I will be submitting our team details first thing Monday morning. Cost will be £22.50 per person and you can pay online, or bring the money/cheque to me ASAP. So, get yourselves in to team of four, and work out the following:

  • Your team name
  • 4 x members’ names
  • Your DOBs
  • Your mobile numbers
  • Your email addresses

…then head over to [THIS PAGE HERE] and enter it there.

If you haven’t done it by Sunday then I’m afraid your team won’t be entered. You have had 14 weeks to sort yourselves out!

If you still want to enter after Sunday then you’ll have to do it yourself, and get a parent to write you a cheque. You’ll also need access to a printer to print the email that you receive to confirm your entry.

Form for Summer / Joint Camps

Here’s the form for if you want to go on the Summer Camp / Joint Camp. It’s A5 so it might print funny depending on your settings, but don’t worry about it.

[DOWNLOAD HERE]

It would be helpful to have deposits by the end of May please.
