24 Explorers and 5 Leaders
In order to hit our target cost of £500 per Explorer, we need to raise £4650 (as of 6 October 2011)
Here’s a look at the fundraising we’ve got planned so far:
Natwest Community Force - Natwest annually give grants to 3 projects in each ‘voting area’, with the winners decided by public vote. All you need to do is hop along to http://communityforce.natwest.com/project/3785, register and vote. It takes 30 seconds and we stand a genuine chance of winning £1500. Make sure everyone you know votes for us, even if you have to stand over them while they do it!
Football Cards – we will be issuing each family with a football card soon. Each card will have 40 teams to be sold at £1 each. Once all 40 teams have been sold, the winner is revealed and the person who bought that team wins £20, the other £20 being returned to Helios ESU. Once you have completed one card, feel free to get another!
Gang Show – we are looking to run a Gang Show in April next year. We are currently arranging a venue and date, and rehearsals will start soon!
Other Fundraising – we have several other plans on the go and we will announce each one as they are finalised. They currently include car park marshaling, printer cartridge collection, hopefully bag-packing, and at least one other cunning plan.
We expect that everyone makes a reasonable effort to attend all fundraising sessions (even if it occasionally means missing another hobby, as the Leaders do week in week out), in order that it is fair for everyone. Whilst we have yet to finalise the exact details, but we will be monitoring attendance to make sure that those people who turn up to everything are not subsidising those who attend nothing. At the same time we appreciate that there may be genuine reasons why someone may have to miss an individual event and we will ensure that they are not penalised.
It is generally accepted on school / Scout trips that the Leaders do not pay as they are giving up their time, holidays and in some cases even income in order to supervise the kids for a week. In this particular instance the Leaders have decided that if required, they will pay part of the their costs in order that the trip can still go ahead. The way we intend to to work it is that the first money raised will go towards making the cost £500 for everyone. The next £2500 will go towards eliminating Leaders’ costs. Beyond this, any further funds will go towards reducing the cost to each Explorer
We we will be holding a meeting over winter for the Explorers to decide on their exact programme of activities (you cannot book until 1 March, to make it fair for everyone attending the campsite). A week at Kandersteg typically includes mountaineering and water based activities, such as ice climbing, white water rafting etc, as well as trips in and around the village of Kandersteg. For details of what is available at Kandersteg, please have a look at their website at www.kisc.ch
The Scout Association / Unity Insurance Services provide a comprehensive travel insurance policy which we have included in the cost of the trip, and this includes insurance for many of the adventurous activities that the young people undertake that aren’t covered by many standard travel insurance policies.

You’ll be responsible for making your own way to and from East Midlands Airport. You’ll need to be there a couple of hours before the flights leaves to check in. I’ll let you know the exact time once I know the check in details.
